Hospital and jail

What happens in hospital and jail: medical items and the 6h medical cooldown, revives, bail, busting other players out and breaking out yourself.

Losing a fight, being beaten, overdosing or a critical fail on some crimes puts you in the hospital. Getting caught on other crimes puts you in jail. Either way the timer runs in real time, and most of the city is closed to you until it ends.

Hospital

Medical items heal a share of your max health and take minutes off a hospital stay. They share one medical cooldown: each item adds its cooldown, and you cannot use more once the cooldown would go past 6 hours. Medical strength perks (Field Medic merit, Medic faction perk, Clinic job ranks) make each item heal more.

Revives

Players with medical training (the Field Medicine course, or the Nurse rank at the Clinic) can revive someone in the hospital for 25 Energy. The chance starts at 60%, grows with revive skill and the number of revives you have done, and falls a little for higher-level patients. A revived player walks out with at least 20% health.

Jail

In jail you can wait, pay bail, try to break out, play cards with the inmates for small stakes, or train Guard in the yard. Other players can bust you out or pay your bail.

bail = (100 + 50 x level) x minutes left / 10, at least $50

Busting someone out costs 5 Nerve. The chance starts at 55%, grows with how many busts you have done, and falls with the minutes left and the prisoner's level. A failed bust has a 12% chance of landing you in jail for 5 to 15 minutes.

Breaking out yourself is a 30% chance (more with bust perks), and you get one attempt per stay.

Making stays shorter

Jail and hospital time can be cut by the Silver Tongue merit, the Lawyers and Medic faction perks, a live-in doctor at home and the Winter Blackout event. No combination cuts a stay below 20% of its length.
